My background and training in Psychology & Performing Arts lead me to work within community and education environments using art as a means for cohesion and inclusion. A particular series of projects I undertook in a therapeutic prison environment gave me the opportunity to work with individuals involved in intensive group and individual therapeutic work. I was struck at the efficacy of a multi faceted approach supporting this community and it lead me towards my studies in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture.
I was fascinated by the detail with which Chinese Medicine understands physical and emotional expressions to be woven together and the layers that this modality offers us to understand health - from a physical, emotional and philosophical perspective. My fascination and respect for Chinese Medicine is testament both to the success of my experience of this medicine both as patient and practitioner.
My yoga and meditation practice greatly inform my work. In 2006 and 2011 I spent stretches of time studying yoga and philosophy in India. Yoga introduced me to the benefits of Pranayama 'the practice of controlling and working with the breath' and to meditation, to the benefits of a mindful movement practice for both body and consciousness.
In 2011 I spent time running a multi bed Acupuncture clinic in India treating a group of children, young people and women affected by drug and human trafficking. It was here that I witnessed the efficacy of Craniosacral work for children and those affected by trauma. I find Cranial work profound in how it works with the body as a composition of collated experiences that we have gathered through the course of our lives. The understanding that our bodies 'remember' on both psychological and somatic plains.
I went on to train in Craniosacral Therapy at the College of Craniosacral Therapy in 2013. The training spanned the course of two years and included working with both adults and children.
